SK hynix is considering a full acquisition of 'Key Foundry', a domestic foundry (semiconductor consignment production) company.
According to industry sources on the 17th, SK Hynix is coordinating related procedures to acquire Key Foundry, the former Magnachip Foundry division.
Key Foundry is an 8-inch wafer-based foundry company founded in 1979 by LG Semiconductor. It later merged with Hyundai Electronics in 1999 to become Hynix Semiconductor, followed by Hynix's restructuring process in 2004, it separated its non-memory division and changed its name to Magnachip Semiconductor and sold to overseas investors.
Key Foundry was launched last year when Magnachip Semiconductor separated only the foundry division and sold it to a fund (Magnus PEF) created by a domestic private equity fund.
SK Hynix is reportedly considering acquiring an additional half of the shares held by the Korea Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives and private equity funds to fully acquire Key Foundry.
However, the company is considering various measures, but nothing has been confirmed.
