Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday that it has released its 50 million pixels mobile image sensor "ISOcell GN1" based on 1.2 micrometers (1 millionth of a meter).
The new product was first applied with "Dual Pixel" technology, which places two photo diodes in one pixel, while also applying "Tetracell" technology, which combines four adjacent pixels into one.
ISOCell GN1 calculates the phase difference of the images detected in the two photo diodes located left and right in each pixel and focuses accurately and quickly on the subject.
In addition, each pixel has two photo diodes, so in the case of 50 million pixels, the image can be printed at the level of 100 million pixels using the light accepted by 100 million photo diodes.
In addition, it has the advantage of accepting more light with a relatively large pixel area of 1.2 μm. In particular, in a dark environment, the Tetrasel technology, which combines four pixels into one, quadruples the sensitivity, enabling a bright, vivid image shoot of 12.5 million pixels.
Samsung Electronics is also equipped with the latest image sensor technologies such as "Smart-ISO," which automatically adjusts ISO values according to light, "Real-time HDR," which automatically optimizes brightness and intensity during image shooting, and "EIS," which is an "Electronic Image Shaking Calibration."
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics began mass production of the ISO Cell GN1 this month.
