The game industry is planning to strengthen self-regulation on 'probabilistic items' that have triggered a user boycott from next month.
According to the game industry and political circles on the 14th, The Korea Game Industry Association will implement "a revision to the self-regulatory code to create a healthy game culture" on the 1st of next month, which calls for strengthening the disclosure of probability information.
Once the revision is implemented, those subject to self-regulation will be expanded from "paid items"that can be purchased or obtained at stores in games to "paid content" that includes the process of strengthening or synthesizing items through combinations and combinations.
The game industry believes that there will be no problem even if regulations are tightened because the revision has increased transparency in the six-month preparation period since it was drawn up at the end of May.
This is because there have been no cases in which Korean game companies have been caught for non-compliance with stochastic items since May.
Lee Sang-hun, a lawmaker of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, proposed a revision to the game law, which includes the obligation to disclose probabilistic items and probabilities by type, and plans to begin the screening process after holding a public hearing during the regular session of the National Assembly next month.
In response, the game industry expressed concern that the revision of the game law includes various regulations as well as the disclosure of information on probabilistic items, which could put the game market into a downturn.
