LG Energy Solution has succeeded in securing nickel and cobalt, raw materials for anode materials that are key materials for electric vehicle batteries (secondary batteries).
LG Energy Solution announced on the 16th that it has signed a long-term contract with Australian battery raw material producer Australian Mines (AM) to purchase nickel processed products (nickel and cobalt hydroxide mixture).
Under this contract, LG Energy Solution will receive 71,000 tons of nickel and 7,000 tons of cobalt for six years from the second half of 2024. This is the capacity to manufacture about 1.3 million batteries based on high-performance electric vehicles (which can drive more than 500km on a single charge).
Founded in 2001, AM is pushing for the "Sconi Project," which produces nickel and cobalt for electric vehicle batteries by applying eco-friendly methods, and plans to complete the construction of a smelting plant in Greenvale, Queensland, Australia, in 2024.
