While Hyundai Motor has decided to suspend production of some lines at its 3rd and 5th plants in Ulsan, Kia will also suspend the operation of its 2nd Soha plant due to a shortage of vehicle semiconductor.
According to industry sources on the 14th, Kia decided to shut down its Soha 2 plant from the 17th to 18th due to a shortage of air back control units (ACU) semiconductors. Soha Plant 2 manufactures small sports utility vehicles (SUV) Stonic.
This is the first time that Kia decided to suspend operating the plant. Hyundai Motor also decided to shut down 52 lines at its fifth plant in Ulsan, which produces subcompact SUV Tucson and hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo, on the 17th and 18th due to the shortage of ACU-related semiconductors.
In addition, the Ulsan Plant 3, which produces Avante and Compact SUV Venue, is also scheduled to close on the 18th.
Earlier, Hyundai Motor stopped operating the Porter production line at its Ulsan 4 plant on the 6th and 7th for the same reason. Last month, the first plant in Ulsan, which produces Ionic 5 and Kona, was also forced to close.
