Halla Holdings announced on the 16th that it will invest 100 billion won in WCP, which manufactures separators for electric vehicle batteries.

It is a method of investing in Wscope, the parent company of WCP, through its subsidiary Weco. With this investment, Halla Holdings will acquire a 5% stake in WCP from Wscope.

Synergy is expected with affiliates of Halla Group, including Weeco, which produces auto after-sales service (AS) parts, and Mando, which expands electric vehicle parts.

Halla Holdings has decided to cooperate strategically by establishing a joint sales network with WCP. WCP produces a separation film, one of the four battery materials, in a wet way.

The separation membrane blocks the gap between the anode and the cathode to prevent fire accidents that occur when the two come into contact.

At the same time, lithium ions pass through microscopic pores to help recharge or discharge batteries. Although the manufacturing process of wet separator is more complicated than dry, it is mainly used in electric vehicles due to its high energy density.
