Naver announced that its own web brower 'Whale' will become the No. 1 browser in the domestic market within three years.
It will challenge Google 'Chrome', which is the No. 1 global web browser market including Korea.
Naver developed Whale based on Google's open web browser 'Chromium' in 2017. Whale is trying to differentiate itself by developing various functions that serve Korean users. It is designed to provide indentical services only available in mobile phones in PC enviroment. Its strategy is to increase browser scalability by connecting PC and mobile.
As a result, the company released new features such as 'sidebar-alone mode' that includes various tools such as PapaGo and 'green drop' to exchange files regardless of device and operating system (OS).
The 'PC phone' function, which displays the phone number directly on the smartphone when the user looks it up in Whale, has also been added.
Ahead of the 'Zoom' turn into a paid service in August, Naver's video conferencing service ' Whale On' will be available in Wales immediately. It is the first video conferencing solution bulit in the browser. It plans to focus on mobility such as vehicle infotainment system and partner with LG Electronics to release a whale-mounted laptop in the second half of the year.
