LG Electronics, which is closing down its smartphone business, has decided to turn its Haiphong campus smartphone plant in Vietnam into a production line for home appliances.
On the 20th, LG Electronics' subsidiary in Vietnam said in a global newsroom that it will announce additional investment plans after switching its production line at the plant and completing new work assignment for the current employees within this year.
LG Electronics has produced mobile phones in Vietnam and Brazil. There are more than 16,000 employees working on the Haiphong campus.
Negotiations are underway with the labor union of the Taubate plant in Brazil regarding the relocation of the production line. Earlier, LG Electronics decided to close its mobile phone business on July 31 at the board meeting on the 5th.
