[Infostock Daily= Reporter An Hoe Hyun] Mando, an auto parts maker, will work with National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) to develop a new type of Coronavirus infection(COVID 19) patient ventilator. Mando was selected as the only partner of NASA's respirator development project among East Asian companies as well as domestic companies. Mando plans to raise the medical device industry as a future source.
NASA's Rocket Propulsion Research Institute is developing a respirator for intensive care and is conducting a 'Vital Project' to supply it to countries around the world. The Rocket Propulsion Research Institute has given only 28 companies the authority to produce and sell ventilators developed through the project. Mando is the only one in Korea.
Mando began developing a ventilator shortly after the collaboration with NASA was confirmed, characterized by the patient's personal use, not the existing respirator system installed in the hospital. It can be used for emergency use in normal times and can be used usefully when a disaster occurs.
Mando is currently increasing its investment in the medical device industry, and is planning to produce some medical device products and parts based on its technology that produces automobile parts that require high durability and stability.
