Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Group, passed away at the age of 78

[Infostock Daily=Reporter Park Jeong-do] Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee, who has led Samsung Electronics to the world's top manufacturer, passed away 5 a.m. on the October 25th(S. Korea local time) at the age of 78. 

According to Samsung Group, Chairman Lee died comfortably at Samsung Medical Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, when his family gathered. Chairman Lee is survived by wife Hong Ra-hee, Samsung Museum Art Director, his son Lee Jae-yong, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman, his eldest daughter Lee Boon-Jin, Hotel Shilla President, and his second daughter Lee Seo-hyun, Samsung C&T President.

The deceased suffered a heart attack caused by acute myocardial infarction on the night of May 10, 2014, and has been hospitalized at Samsung Medical Center as his health deteriorated drastically. The deceased, who underwent lung lymph cancer surgery in November 1999, lived in warm and clean areas in the United States and Japan in winter due to poor respiratory health.

Born on January 9, 1942 in Daegu as the third son of the late Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung Group, the deceased was chosen as the successor to lead the group in the mid-1970s. Shortly after the death of its founder Lee Byung-chul, he took office as chairman of Samsung Group in December 1987 and led the 'Samsung Ho'.

The funeral will be held as a family funeral in accordance with the will of the deceased and their families
