[Infostock Daily= Reporter Lee Hyong-Jin] Samsung Electronics's plan to establish EUV semiconductor plant in Us, Texas Austin , following the start of the Pyeongtaek EUV DRAM plant in Korea, are expected to be postponed indefinitely.
“The plan to establish an EUV plant, which was scheduled to be established at the Samsung Semiconductor factory site in Austin, Texas, in the second half of this year, is likely to be postponed indefinitely,” an official said on 5th.
The official added, “We cannot make a final decision by applying for a warrant for Lee Jae-yong to arrest the prosecution, and we know that the postponement of construction is inevitably considered.”
The US government is said to have recently granted a license to establish a new factory on Samsung Electronics' empty site in Austin Semiconductor pant.
Immediately after approval of the license, Samsung Electronics completed all preparations such as factory design drawings and construction company selection, and started construction of EUV semiconductor factory with the aim of operating in 2023.
The new EUV plant in Austin is said to include the production of state-of-the-art DRAMs, which was originally aimed at producing system semiconductors.
“We understand that the new EUV plant is being promoted as a big event for President Trump to attend in line with President Moon Jae-in’s trip to the United States,” a key government official said. “We believe that the construction of the new Austin semiconductor plant has become a card that will strengthen the alliance between the two countries while at the same time breaking through the path of negotiations on defense spending between the U.S. and South Korea.”
Accordingly, it is analyzed that the semiconductor new global supply chain project, which was carried out in close cooperation between the two governments, is also in danger of being destroyed.
“The establishment of EUV systems semiconductors factory in Austin is a fixed procedure in light of the start of the EUV DRAM factory in Pyeongtaek following Lee Jae-yong's visit to China,” Choi Yang-oh, an adviser to Hyundai Economic Research Institute, said in a telephone conversation with Infostak Daily.
“But if Lee Jae-yong, who is in the process of filing a lawsuit, becomes unclear, the final decision on the establishment of EUV factory will be delayed, and the negotiations that the US and the Korean government have been conducting under the water will likely be a waste at the same time,” Choi added.
