[Infostock Daily= Reporter Park Sang-In] EcoproBM NCA anode materials is likely to be supplied to Tesla, a report said.
Battery technology is important in electric vehicles, among which anode material is considered to be the most important battery material, especially nickel cobalt aluminum anode material (NCA), which has high energy density, is a battery used in Tesla.
EcoproBM is a company that divides Ecopro's secondary battery material business in 2016 to specialize in secondary battery business.
In Korea, NCA anodic active material in which the nickel portion is 80% or greater is produced.
EcoproBM ranks second in the global NCA market; Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining ranks first; Sumitomo exclusively supplies NCA for EVs to Tesla.
The company established a joint venture with Samsung SDI in February this year, EcoproEM, with a stake of 60% in EcoproBM and 40% in Samsung SDI.
"If Samsung SDI's Tesla ESS battery supply expands to 21700 cylindrical batteries, it may lead to actual ESS-oriented supply," said Joo MinWoo Meritz Securities Researcher. "There is no eternal monopoly," he said, "and the possibility of supplying Tesla EV has increased in the future."
