The shutdown is due to the operation of the Chinese parts factory due to the new Coronavirus infection in China.
The 51line of Ulsan 5 plant stopped production on the morning of the 4th. The 1 line of Ulsan 5 plant produces Genesis G90, G80 and G70. The 2-line Ulsan 4 plant, which produces a one-ton truck 'Porter', also stopped operating in the afternoon.
On May 5, Ulsan 1 Plant (Kona, Belloster) will stop operations at 2 lines (Nexo, Tucson) at Ulsan 5 Plant, Ulsan 2 Plant (GV80, Palisade, Santa Fe, Tucson), Ulsan 3 Plant (Avante, i30, Ionic, Benne) and Ulsan 4 Plant 1 lines (Palysade, Grand Starex).
The Jeonju plant, which produces large trucks, and the Asan plant, which produces Grandeur and Sonata, will also be closed on June 6 and 7, respectively.
This shutdown is due to the failure to supply wiring harnesses. Wiring harnesses are parts that transmit electric signals and power to the entire vehicle. It is difficult to find other parts because it is designed to match the vehicle.
Hyundai Motor found parts elsewhere due to the shutdown of its parts factory in China, but it was not easy. Hyundai asked these companies to increase production.
Kia Motors plans to operate its plant in a way that reduces automobile production, but if parts procurement continues to be difficult in China, Kia Motors is likely to stop operating the plant.
Ssangyong Motor will also shut down its plant in Pyeongtaek on Monday due to lack of wiring harness inventory. GM Korea and Renault Samsung Motors will also consider shutting down operations after seeing the supply of parts.
