[인포스탁데일리=송정훈 전문기자] 우리나라 맥주산업 밸류체인의 모든 비즈니스를 한눈에 파악할 수 있는 맥주박람회가 내년 3월 열린다. 

내년 3월19일부터 21일까지 서울 양재동 aT센터에서 열리는 ‘대한민국 맥주산업 박람회(Korea International Beer Expo, KIBEX)는 맥주 생산에서 유통, 패키징, 소비에 이르는 맥주 산업 밸류체인의 모든 비즈니스를 한자리에서 보고 체험할 수 있는 국내 유일 맥주 전문 박람회다. 맥주 콘텐츠 전문회사 비어포스트와 전시 컨벤션 전문기업 GMEG가 공동 주최한다.

지난해 3월 열린 첫번째 KIBEX는 전세계 7개국의 양조 설비 기업, 맥주 재료 기업, 맥주 양조장,디자인, 패키징 기업 등이 참가했다. 또 관람객 1만여명이 방문했다. 특히 B2B 네트워킹과 비즈니스가 활발하게 진행돼 90% 이상의 기업이 다시 참가를 희망할 만큼 좋은 평가를 받았다. 

KIBEX 2020은 지난 행사와 비교해 전시 규모가 2배 이상 확대됐고 참여 국가도 대폭 늘어난다. 수제맥주 붐을 일으키고 있는 미국을 비롯해 전통의 맥주 강국 독일 ∙ 영국 ∙ 벨기에, 세계 최대 맥주 시장인 중국과 크래프트 맥주 시장이 태동하고 있는 많은 동남아시아 국가들까지 참석한다. 

또 맥주 관련 전문지식을 공유하는 국제 맥주 컨퍼런스(International Beer Conference)도 개최한다. 전 세계 유명 맥주 전문가들이 연사로 나서 글로벌 맥주 시장 트렌드를 반영한 강연을 진행할 예정이다. 이밖에 인터내셔널 비어 어워즈, 신제품 발표회 등 다양한 부대행사도 열린다.

이번 KIBEX는 종량세 전환이라는 큰 변화를 앞두고 열리는 맥주 전문 행사라는 점에 눈길이 쏠린다. 내년 4월 50년 만에 맥주 주세 부과 방식이 가격에 세금을 매기는 종가세에서 생산량에 세금을 매기는 종량세로 변경된다.

이를 통해 그동안 맥주 가격의 절반 가량을 차지할 만큼 많이 부과됐던 세금이 맥주 1리터당 830원으로 낮아진다. 제도 변화로 수제맥주의 가격 장벽이 일부 해소되면서 맥주 시장이 대변혁기를 맞게 될 것이라고 전문가들은 보고 있다.

현재 국내 맥주 시장은 4~5년만에 수제맥주 양조장이 100개 이상 늘어나는 등 시장이 역동적으로 움직이고 있다. 여기에 종량세 기반이 마련되면서 1~2% 수준에 머물러있는 수제맥주의 시장 점유율이 최대 10%대까지 폭발적으로 성장할 것으로 전망된다.

이런 시점에 KIBEX 2020는 새로운 맥주 비즈니스를 엿볼 ㅅ두 있는 자리인 동시에 새로운 비즈니스를 창출할 수 있는 자리가 될 것으로 보인다. KIBEX 주최측은 “KIBEX 2020은 해외의 홉, 몰트, 이스트 등 맥주 재료 기업, 양조 설비 기업, 맥주 양조장(브루어리), 생맥주 시스템 기업 등이 폭발적인 성장을 앞두고 있는 한국 시장에 진출할 교두보가 될 것”이라며 “한국 시장을 넘어, 아시아 맥주 시장까지 비즈니스를 모색할 수 있는 국제적 네트워크 플랫폼이 되겠다”고 강조했다.

한편 KIBEX는 세계 최대 맥주 및 음료분야 전시회인 독일의 브라우바비알레(BrauBeviale)와 마케팅 협약을 체결, Member of Beviale Family로서 국제적인 맥주 전시회들과 어깨를 나란히 하게 됐다. KIBEX는 브라우바비알레를 통해 중국, 서유럽, 동유럽, 북미, 인도, 동남아시아 등지에 걸쳐 대표적인 국제 맥주 전시회들과의 네트워크를 확보하고, 국내 맥주 산업의 가능성과 중요성을 세계에 알리고자 노력하고 있다.

KOREA INTERNATIONAL BEER EXPO “KIBEX 2020” will be held next March

The Korea International Beer Expo(KIBEX) 2020 will be held for three days from March 19-21 next year at aT Center in Seoul.

KIBEX is the only beer-specialized fair in Korea where visitors can see and experience all the businesses of the beer industry value chain from beer production to distribution, packaging and consumption in one place. KIBEX is co-hosted by the Beer Post, a firm which specialized in beer contents and the GMEG, an exhibition professionalized firm.

The first KIBEX, held in March, involved companies such as brewery, machinery, raw materials and ingredients in seven countries around the world. The event was held in a prosperous atmosphere with more than 10,000 visitors attending. In particular, B2B networking and business were actively carried out, which received favorable reviews enough for more than 90 percent of companies to hope for re-participation.

KIBEX 2020 has more than doubled its exhibition size compared to the previous event and the number of participating countries will increase significantly. From the US where the craft beer is booming, Germany, United Kingdom, and Belgium where the traditional great powers of beer, China that boasting global beer market scale, and to Southeast Asian countries where the market for craft beer is in full swing. With the participation of international beer professionals, KIBEX 2020 is expected to establish itself as an international beer exhibition in name and reality.

In addition, the Korea International Beer Awards(KIBA), the first international beer competition in Korea, will be held together. KIBA is expected to be a credible competition with domestic beer experts and 30 overseas beer experts as judges. More than 300 kinds of beers at home and abroad are expected to participate.

The International Beer Conference, held together, is designed to share beer expertise. Famous beer experts from around the world will be speaking and reflecting the global beer market trends.

KIBEX 2020 is especially noteworthy in that it is a beer specialty event that is held ahead of the big change of the liquor tax system. In Korea, the method of levying beer-related taxes will be changed for the first time in 50 years in April next year. It will be changed from price-based tax to volume-based tax system. This lowers the tax on beer to 830 won per liter. So far, taxes have been high enough to make up about half the price of beer. Experts are predicting that the beer market will undergo a major revolution as the system changes lower the price barrier for craft beer.

Currently, the Korean beer market is dynamic, with the number of craft beer breweries increasing by more than 100 in four to five years. With a favorable tax base in the future, the market share of craft beer, which has remained at 1 to 2 percent, is expected to explode to the 10 percent range.

At this point, KIBEX 2020 is an opportunity to look into the new version of Korea's beer business and to create a new business. KIBEX organizers said, "KIBEX 2020 will be a bridgehead for beer material companies, brewing companies, beer breweries and draft beer system companies to enter the Korean market with explosive growth." They also noted that "we will be an international network platform to search for business in the Asian market beyond Korea.”

KIBEX has also entered into a marketing agreement with BrauBeviale, Germany, the world's largest trade show for beer and beverages, and became a member of Beviale Family ranging with international beer exhibitions. KIBEX is setting down as a global exhibition that enable to meet the key players in the beer industry. KIBEX secures network with global platforms and competes to spread the possibility and importance of Korean beer market into the world.
