Daesang set up a joint venture to build a kimchi plant in Poland and launched a full-fledged drive to tap into the European market.
On the 7th, Daesang announced its plan to establish a joint venture with a local Polish company and complete a new kimchi plant in Poland by 2024. The target is to lead the globalization of kimchi by using Poland as a production base in Europe following the LA plant in the United States.
The target kimchi factory, which is scheduled to be established in Krakow, Poland, has a total land area of 6,613㎡ (2,000 pyeong). Construction began in 2023 and aims to be completed within the second half of 2024. The target is to invest about 15 billion won until the completion of the Polish plant to produce more than 3,000 tons of kimchi annually by 2030.
The target is the establishment of kimchi factories to target the European market as European countries have recently emerged as major exporters of packaged kimchi in Korea. Currently, Daesang has 10 overseas plants in the United States, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, and the Polish plant is Daesang's 11th overseas plant. It is the third overseas kimchi production plant after China's Yeonun Port (Lian Yungang) and the U.S. LA.
Based on the launch of a Polish joint venture and the establishment of a kimchi plant, the company plans to increase annual sales of its local food business in Europe to 100 billion won by 2025.
