[Infostock Daily = Reporter Lee Ji-sun] It has been confirmed that Samsung Electronics set up the plan to produce the Exynos 2200, which aims to deliver 200 million units, from 5-nm (nano meter) process this year. The company plans to produce the chip from the 4-nm process next year.
"As the 4-nm process yield has improved rapidly, Samsung Electronics is expected to start mass production as early as the first quarter of next year," said an official familiar with internal affairs at Samsung Electronics on the 11th.
Exynos 2200 will be the first mass producing chip utilizing the 4-nm technology. Samsung Electronics is known to secure a 4-nano yield soon after securing a 5-nano yield.
Samsung's 4-nm yield rate is known to be close to 40% as of November. The 4-nm node replaced the one of the 5-nm production lines and it is in the pilot production.
"If Samsung Electronics, which had hard time to obtain the 7-nm yield, quickly reach the 4nm yield following the 5-nm yield, then the company will secure the 3 nm yield in a short period of time," said Cho Ho-jin, CEO of Tachyon World.
"The continuous and rapid yield of the advanced process is expected to secure non-memory global customers as many as TSMC," He added.
