POSCO Chemical is spurring the reinforcement of competitiveness in the secondary battery material business by investing in artificial graphite anode materials.
POSCO Chemical held a board meeting on the 10th and decided to acquire a 15% stake in Sinuo, a Chinese artificial graphite anode material company.
POSCO Chemical decided to invest 26.1 billion won to participate in the management of Sinuo, which has an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, and to have exclusive sales rights to domestic battery companies.
Sinuo started producing artificial graphite anode materials in 2002 and has been supplying materials to major battery companies in China.
With this investment in China, POSCO Chemical, which is building a plant with an annual capacity of 16,000 tons in Pohang, will be able to achieve synergy in the anode material business at home and abroad and increase its competitiveness.
POSCO Chemical plans to expand its anode material production capacity to 44,000 tons this year, 172,000 tons in 2025, and 260,000 tons in 2030.
