Coupang said on the 9th that it will not tolerate false claims on the issue of workplace harassment raised by the Public Transport Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.
In response to an official letter from the Korean Public Transport Workers' Union, Coupang stressed, "The union demanded heavy punishment on perpetrators, but the respective Department of Labor office concluded that only one employee's comments were inappropriate."
"We won't accept the union's false claims and cannot impose sanctions on employees without legal grounds." Coupang responded.
Earlier in May, A worker, a senior official at the Coupang Logistics center branch of the Public Transport Workers' Union, filed a petition with the Ministry of Employment and Labor. He claimed that he was unfairly treated and threatened by management.
Coupang is waiting for the results of the labor office's investigation prior to take any disciplinary actions on their employees.
"The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions is misusing the system as they demand heavy punishment on employees who are not responsible for harassment." Coupang said. "If the union spread the falsified information continually, we will not tolerate it."
The Coupang Logistics Center Branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held a press conference at the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions in Jung-gu, Seoul at 11 a.m. and said, "The Ministry of Employment and Labor acknowledged the harassment neglected by the Coupang Ethics Committee in nine months.".
