Starbucks is the only coffee chain company to be investigated by the Financial Supervisory Service in connection with prepaid charging.
It is included in the survey of unregistered prepaid electronic payment companies (pre-payment companies).
According to the financial authorities and the financial industry, the FSS is conducting an investigation after receiving business status data from 58 unregistered prepaid companies that issue electronic gift certificates. Starbucks was included among them.
According to data recently released by the Democratic Party's Office of Assemblyman Hong Seong-guk, Starbucks' prepaid deposits amount to 180 billion won. It is significantly ahead of prepaid companies such as Naver Financial (126 billion won) and Toss (130 billion won).
Starbucks is not subject to pre-paid company registration under the current law, but it is known to be included in the investigation because of the large amount of pre-paid charging.
