"It is fair for foreign companies to pay network fees at the same level as domestic companies." Lee Hae-jin, Naver Global Investment Officer (GIO), made a statement on network usage fees.
"There have been concerns about the issue of reverse discrimination when asked by Rep. Kim Sang-hee of the Democratic Party of Korea about his thoughts on network usage fees," said Lee Hae-jin, GIO, who attended as a witness at the National Assembly's general audit of the Korea Communications Commission on the 21st.
"It seems to be right for foreign companies that are using much more networks to pay at the same level as domestic companies.".
Rep. Kim said that overseas content providers (CPs) such as Google and Netflix are not paying network usage fees properly, but Naver and Kakao pay network usage fees to telecommunication companies every year, raising the issue of reverse discrimination from domestic companies.
"It is difficult to give an opinion because we do not know about the relationships or contracts between global companies and telecommunication companies," Kakao Chairman Kim Beom-soo said. "The National Assembly should make efforts to make it a fair Internet environment.".
