Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution announced on the 15th that they held a groundbreaking ceremony for the battery cell plant at the site of a joint plant in the new industrial complex (KNIC) in Karawang, Indonesia.
The battery cell joint plant, which began construction on the same day, will be built on a total of 330,000 square meters of land with the aim of completing it in the first half of 2023, and will begin mass production of battery cells in the first half of 2024.
The joint plant can produce 10 gigawatts of battery cells per year, more than 150,000 batteries for electric vehicles.
The battery cell produced at the joint plant is a high-performance NCMA lithium-ion battery cell that adds aluminum (A) that can apply LG Energy Solution's new battery technology to increase output to high content nickel (N), cobalt (C) and manganese (M) and reduce chemical instability.
