LG Energy Solution signed a battery supply contract with Proterra, an American electric bus manufacturer.
On the 11th (local time), Proterra announced that it had signed a long-term supply contract with LG Energy Solutions for cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles. The contract period is 6 years from 2023 to 2028, and the specific supply scale has not been revealed. The two companies' existing battery cell supply contracts have also been extended until 2024.
Proterra is an electric bus company built by former Tesla employees. It was established in 2004 and started selling electric buses in 2009, and currently occupies more than 60% of the North American electric bus market share. LG Energy Solution has been working with Proterra since 2016, before it was split from LG Chem.
In response, LG Energy Solutions said, “The construction of a plant in the United States has been considered for a while, and nothing has been confirmed yet.”
