Kakao Entertainment, a content subsidiary of Kakao, is seeking to acquire management rights of Tapas Media, a webtoon platform in North America.
Tapas Media was founded by CEO Kim Chang-won in the U.S. in 2012 and operates North America's first webtoon platform, 'Tapas' and Kakao Entertainment currently holds a 40.4% stake of the company.
Kakao Page, the predecessor of Kakao Entertainment, has maintained a long partnership with Tapas and became the second-largest shareholder in November last year. As a result Tapas was reported as a foreign subsidiary with minority interest.
Kakao Entertainment is trying to penetrate the North American webtoon and we fiction markets with Tapas and Radish respectably.
