The shortage of semiconductors will negatively impact the production of Hyundai Motors. Hyundai Motor is considering shutting down Ulsan Plant 1, which manufactures Kona and Ionic 5, for a week from the 5th of next month.
According to the industry, management at Ulsan Plant 1 held an emergency meeting on the 29th and decided to close the plant from April 5th to April 13th. Hyundai Motor has decided to close its plant amid a series of production cuts by global automakers due to the shortage of semiconductors.
There are two reasons for the closure of Ulsan Plant 1. In addition to the front camera chip shortage for Kona, the supply of PE modules for Ionic 5 has also been disrupted by problems in production line of Hyundai Mobis. The company provides key supplies for PE module.
The industry predicted that the production of Kona and Ionic 5 will be cut down by 6,000 units and 6,500 units respectively due to the shutdown. As such, the delivery of Ionic 5 is expected to be delayed.
