[Infostock Daily=Reporter Lee Ji-sun] It has been confirmed that Samsung Electronics has finalized its investment in the construction of a new EUV-only semiconductor foundry plant in Austin, U.S.. In addition, Samsung Electronics has initiated the work for selecting parts and material suppliers for the new plant.
"Samsung Electronics sent out the official request for proposal (RFP) to global semiconductor partners recently for supplying parts and materials to the new Austin EUV plant," a senior Samsung Electronics official told Infostock Daily on the 8th.
Global companies that received the RFPs from Samsung are expected to participate in competitive bidding process after finalizing supply type and method and the unit price of their products.
The official added, "Major partners are even considering the plan to build production facilities near the new EUV-only plant."
Most of the suppliers that will set up plants in Austin are known to be South Korean suppliers.
However, the official position of Samsung Electronics on the matter stated, "We are still reviewing various sites such as Texas, New York, and Arizona for semiconductor plant expansion in the United States. But nothing has been decided yet."
