[Infostock Daily=Reporter Park Jeong-do] Hyundai Motor will set the stage for entering the Chinese hydrogen-electric commercial vehicle market.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 4th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its partners in the Changjiang Delta (Jiangsamgak) and Jingjingji (an abbreviation of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei), which includes Shanghai, Jiangsu Province and parts of Zhejiang Province, respectively, with the aim of establishing a hydrogen economy ecosystem in China.

Hyundai Motor first signed an MOU with Shanghai Electric Power Corp. (Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd.), Shanghai Sunhwa New Energy System Co., Ltd., Shanghai Yonghwahwa and Loan Lease Co., Ltd. on the 27th of last month to build a hydrogen commercial vehicle platform in the Jangsamgak region Accordingly, the company plans to establish a hydrogen electric vehicle business platform that includes hydrogen production and supply, establishment of hydrogen charging facilities, vehicle supply, and vehicle operation (financial) through Hyundai's commercial hydrogen electric vehicles in the Jangsamgak region, the backbone of the Chinese economy, and to promote the pilot operation of hydrogen electric vehicles by forming an organic cooperation system.

Shanghai Electric Power is responsible for investing in hydrogen charging stations and promoting hydrogen production projects through coal gas complex power generation (IGCC).

Hyundai Motor will be in charge of supplying and operating vehicles to major logistics companies in the Jangsamgak region by supplying hydrogen-electric trucks and establishing a hydrogen-electric commercial vehicle operation company.

By 2025, the goal is to supply more than 3,000 hydrogen electric trucks to the Jangsamgak area.

Hyundai Motor Co. signed an additional MOU with China Research Group Anta Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Anta Science & Technology Co., Ltd.) and Hebei Steel Industrial Technology Service Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hegang Industrial Technology) to build a hydrogen electric vehicle platform in Jingjinji.

The Jingjin area, China's metropolitan area, is home to a large steel company, which is rich in secondary hydrogen production resources and has optimal conditions for the operation of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles due to high demand for large trucks due to large-scale supplies from Tianjin and Tangshan, according to Hyundai Motor.

The Tangshan city government is planning to build a hydrogen industry cluster with the aim of developing the hydrogen electric vehicle industry centered on large trucks, logistics vehicles and urban maintenance vehicles.

Through this MOU, Hyundai Motors will supply hydrogen electric trucks suitable for market needs (demands). Antai Science and Technology is in charge of providing technologies related to hydrogen storage, transportation and charging, while Heogang Industrial Technology is in charge of supplying hydrogen using auxiliary hydrogen resources and finding sources of demand for the use of large hydrogen-powered trucks.

Based on this, the company plans to push for a pilot project of large hydrogen-powered trucks in the Jingjinji area and supply 1,000 hydrogen-powered trucks by 2025.
