[Infostock Daily= Reporter An Hoe Hyun] LG Innotek announced on the 14th that it localized high-efficiency ferrite materials and applied them to power modules for various information technology(IT) devices.
Ferrite is a magnetic material whose main ingredient is iron oxide. The powder-type ferrite powder is solidified into a tile shape and used as a chip. It is mainly installed in power modules for TVs, power for vehicles and chargers to change voltage or remove unnecessary signals caused by current waves.
High-efficiency ferrite, which reliably supplies power to advanced IT devices such as display panels for TVs, air conditioners for vehicles and audio, is emerging as a next-generation material.
In the meantime, Japanese companies have led the ferrite market with the world's No. 1 technology.
In order to overcome this, LG Innotek has begun to develop high-efficiency ferrite since 2018. Judging that it is difficult to narrow the gap with Japanese products in a short period of time with the existing development method, the company introduced digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) and supercomputing technology for the first time in the design process.
As a result, the development period, which takes at least four years, was reduced to only one year and four months.
The high-efficiency ferrite developed by LG Innotek has up to 40% less power loss due to heat compared to general ferrite. It also maintains the low loss characteristics at 40°C below zero~140°C above zero.
