[Infostock Daily= Reporter An Hoe Hyun] SK Hynix announced on the 6th that it will launch the world's first DDR5 DRAM, the next-generation DRAM standard following 'DDR4'.
DDR5 is a high-speed and high-capacity product optimized for big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. SK Hynix developed the world's first 16Gb(gigabit) DDR5 in November 2018.
This product has a transmission speed of up to 1.8 times faster from 4800Mbps to 5600Mbps than the previous generation DDR4's 3200Mbps. The 5600Mbps is capable of delivering about nine FHD(Full-HD) movies(5㎇) in a second. The operating voltage was lowered from 1.2V to 1.1V, reducing power consumption by 20%.
It also has a built-in Error Correcting Code(ECC) inside the chip so that it can correct the errors of 1 bit of the DRAM cell, which can be caused by various causes.
SK Hynix expects to reduce power usage and operating costs of data centers with the launch of DDR5, which has greatly improved reliability while reducing power consumption.
