[Infostock Daily=Reporter Park Jeong-Do] LS Cable announced on the 24th that it commercialized communication cable using carbon fiber, the next generation material fostered by the government.
In the past, copper and aluminum have been used as shielding materials to protect cables, but carbon fiber products have been introduced for the first time in Korea.
Carbon fiber weighs one-quarter of steel, but its strength is 10 times higher and its elasticity is seven times higher. LS Cable explained that cables using carbon fibers weigh 10 to 20 percent lighter and flexibility and durability improve by more than 30 percent.
LS Cable is preparing to mass-produce LAN cables used for facility operation and system management in smart factories and buildings, and is applying them to industrial cables as a whole.
The company expects the introduction of carbon fiber cables to become more active, especially in the fields of transportation (mobility) such as electric cars, railways, aviation, and ships, and facilities such as industrial robots and elevators.
