[Infostock Daily=Reporter Park Jeong-Do] LG U + (Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe) announced on the 18th that it has demonstrated outdoor autonomous robots using 5G network at Unmand Solution, a specialized autonomous robot company, and Seosan factory in Chungcheongnam-do, Hyundai Oilbank.

LG U + demonstrated the 5G autonomous driving robot, which autonomously drives the factory site without human intervention and inspects major facilities. Specifically, ▲ autonomous driving without remote operation to the destination ▲ lane recognition when driving ▲ detection of obstacles ▲ temperature monitoring of thermal camera-based facilities and real-time remote control.

The 5G autonomous robot was made by combining LG U +'s 5G communication and real-time high-precision positioning (RTK) technology with the unmand solution autonomous driving robot. In this demonstration, the autonomous robot succeeded in autonomous driving within 10cm error, and it was possible to drive sophisticatedly in centimeters (cm).

High precision positioning technology is a technology that corrects the error of GPS, which generates an error of up to 30m, based on a reference station to secure a more accurate position. The error with the observed location is compared in the reference station knowing the absolute position value including latitude, longitude, altitude etc. and the correction information is created and this is transferred to robot. It is transmitted the correction information to 5G communications without delay and robot accurately can patrol the target area.

In particular, the demonstration also included artificial intelligence-based eyes (camera) for precise operation of 5G autonomous robots. In the refinery where many vehicles operate together, accurate lane recognition is important. LG U +'s 5G autonomous robot succeeded in never leaving the lane while demonstrating with advanced image recognition technology. In addition, it showed slow and stop when detecting obstacles, and emphasized the safety of autonomous driving.

The 5G self-driving robot, equipped with thermal imaging cameras, stopped operating and detected the temperature of the facility when it arrived at a designated high-temperature facility location. In the remote control room, it was also possible to check the high-definition images transmitted by the autonomous robot through 5G communication in real time.

In the future, LG U + will further strengthen its refinery specialization function by installing intelligent image analysis solution and harmful gas detection IoT sensor. It also plans to continue to upgrade its autonomous driving technology, which operates with other general vehicles in the plant in uncontrolled traffic environments.
