Pass mobile driver's license is a service that proves the driver's license on and off line by registering the driver's license in the "PASS" certification app of three wireless carriers. Pass mobile driver's license is the first digitally recognized ID card commercialized in Korea through ICT regulatory sandbox of the Ministry of Science and ICT last September.
After the launch of the service, the mobile identification ecosystem is growing as the request for alliance continues in the distribution industry such as convenience stores and marts.
Currently, CU and GS25 convenience stores nationwide are used as ID cards for minors. Pass mobile driver's license can be confirmed by bar code and QR code, so it is expected to prevent the deviation caused by the purchase of alcohol and cigarettes and the damage of store owners and stores.
In addition, 27 driving license test centers nationwide have been using 'Pass Mobile Driver's License' since July to renew or reissue driver's licenses and issue English driver's licenses. As the scope of identity verification has been widened through the 'Pass' app, the convenience of customers who have visited the driver's license test center has also increased.
The three carriers and the National Police Agency are discussing ways to apply the 'pass mobile driving license' in the second half of the year to the police administration, such as traffic police inspections. It will also be discussed for financial transactions and mobile communication services to be used for identification purposes. The rental car and shared mobility industry, which frequently applies for non-face-to-face use, is also considering ways to check driver status in real time and prevent unlicensed and unqualified driving in advance.
