[Infostock Daily= Reporter Lee Hyong-Jin] LG Chem will operate its global business sites with 100% renewable energy by 2050. Its strategy is to increase its sustainability and enhance its `environment-friendly competitiveness’ that will make net carbon emissions zero.
LG Chem announced its '2050 carbon neutral growth' strategy on the 6th.
The company will focus on five key tasks: climate change response, renewable energy conversion, resource virtuous cycle activities, ecosystem protection, and responsible supply chain development and management. This is the first example among the large companies that officially announced carbon neutral growth. Carbon neutral growth is a strategy that zeroies net carbon emissions by reducing carbon emissions at an equivalent level.
LG Chem will launch 'RE100', which uses 100% renewable energy to makes products at all workplaces in the world from this year. Directly produce renewable energy or purchase and use from power generation business carrier.
LG Chem estimated carbon emissions in all workplaces at about 40 million tons by 2050. More than 30 million tons of them will be reduced through RE100. It is the equivalent level of reducing the amount of carbon emitted by 12.5 million internal combustion engine cars for one year. This is the effect of planting 220 million pine trees.
