[Infostock Daily= Reporter Park Sang-In] Choi Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, and Jeong Eui-sun, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, will meet on the 7th at the earliest to discuss ways to cooperate regarding future electric vehicle batteries. The meeting between Hyundai Motor and three battery companies, which started in May with the meeting of Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong, is expected to be completed.

According to the business community on the 5th, Vice Chairman Jeong is going to visit SK Innovation's battery plant in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province on the morning of the 7th. Seosan plant is the birthplace of SK Innovation’s battery business and domestic production base.

Vice Chairman Jeong also visited Cheonan Samsung SDI and Ochang LG Chem plants in person respectively in last May when he met Samsung Group vice chairman Lee Jae-yong and LG Group representative Koo Kwang-mo.

In the case of electric vehicles such as Kona, Hyundai Motor removed internal combustion engines and other internal combustion engines from its models and installed electric motors in the space. However, the models will be released exclusively for electric vehicles from 2022. In order to improve the completeness of electric vehicles, the company has developed a dedicated platform (E-GMP). LG Chem is selected as a secondary battery supplier for the platform for electric vehicles only and is working together to secure performance.

In December last year, SK Innovation was selected as a battery supplier of Hyundai Motor's NE (Development Code Name) and Kia Motors' CV (Development Code Name).

Accordingly, Vice Chairman Jeong and chairman Choi are expected to discuss batteries for Personal Air Vehicles (PAV) and Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV), which Hyundai Motor Group is pushing for as a future new business, in addition to electric vehicles, at the meeting on the 7th.
