[Infostock Daily= Reporter Park Sang-In] SK Hynix is s going to start full-scale mass production of DRAMs that are currently implementing the highest speed in existence. It is evaluated as a memory solution optimized for next-generation industries that require advanced computing power including artificial intelligence.

SK Hynix made an announcement on the 2nd that it will mass-produce 'HBM2E', a high-speed DRAM that was developed in August last year, in 10 months.

This product can process data at a speed of 3.6Gbps per second. It uses 1024 information entrances to process 460GB of data per second. It is the fastest DRAM in existence. 124 Full HD resolution films(average 3.7GB) can be transmitted per second.

SK Hynix connected eight 16GB DRAM chips vertically with 'TSV(Through Silicon Via)' technology and implemented 16GB capacity that is more than twice as large as previous generation's. TSV is a technology that drills thousands of fine holes into DRAM chips and connects them with electrodes that penetrate holes in upper and lower layers vertically. The power consumption can be reduced over 50%.

HBM2E is out of the conventional way of connecting memory chips to the mainboard in modular form. The chip itself is mounted on logic chips such as GPU and others at intervals of dozens of micrometers(μm). It is a form that implementing faster data processing while reducing the distance between chips.

The company introduced this product as a optimized for the next-generation of artificial intelligence(AI) systems, including deep learning accelerators and high-performance computing. It is also expected to be used in the Exascale Supercomputer(a high-performance computing systems capable of performing quintillion calculations per second) that will lead the research of next-generation basic and applied sciences such as weather changes, biomedical science and space exploration.
